Southern Punjab’s region is experiencing bursts of fresh political activism. In the past, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had been building their strongholds in that area but now, TTLeaks, reveal that other players have entered the arena.
According to Truth Tracker sources the recently formed Janoobi Punjab Suba Mahaz (South Punjab province Front) has announced that its members will be contesting elections as independent candidates and later the Mahaz would decide which political party to support.
The TTLeaks disclose that at the moment PPP, PTI, PML-N and establishment are simultaneously active and focused on the south Punjab region. Our sources reveal that 10-12 seats from the PML-N are expected to defect and contest July general elections from the Mahaz.
News is that Shahbaz Sharif is meeting with a number of his MNA’s and members from the Southern Punjab and we can expect new and beefed up packages to be announced to appease the disgruntled politicians of South Punjab to ensure their sustained allegiance to the party.
The Mahaz is being criticised for promoting a minus-Nawaz formula in Punjab. The 46 seats in the national assembly are from this region and this is an attractive promise as any to the opposition parties, aspiring to power in Punjab: needless to say that the political opposition is eyeing these developments with keen interest. Moreover loosing a lion’s share of Punjab’s seats could cost PML-N dearly.
